In support of their 14th album Spirit, Depeche Mode is embarking on a massive world tour that will run from May 2017 through March 2018. The tour is aptly named “Global Spirit Tour.”
Spirit is Depeche Mode’s first album in four years.
The summer leg of the tour kicks off in Europe, where the band will make stops in 21 cities and 21 countries.
Depeche mode will play 68 shows in Europe, 32 in North America and 5 in South America, for a total of 105 shows.
The tour continues the band’s partnership with the Hublot, the Swiss watchmaker, to raise money and awareness for the non-profit organization Charity: Water. The organization’s mission is to bring clean and safe drinking water to everyone on the planet.
The North American leg of the tour kicks off in West Valley City, Utah on August 23 and will wrap up in Edmonton, Canada on October 27. The band will then head to Europe again for several dates spanning from November 15, 2017 through February 25, 2018.
The final leg of the tour will kick off March 11, 2018 in Mexico City, Mexico and close March 27, 2018 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Formed in 1980, Depeche Mode is an electronic band from Basildon, Essex. Their debut album Speak & Sell was released in 1981, which propelled the group to the new wave scene in Britain.
The band’s final albums of the 1980s, Music for the Masses and Black Celebration, solidified their position as a dominant force in the electronic music scene. Their 1988 show at the Pasadena Rose Bowl drew a crowd of more than 60,000 people.
The 1990 single “Personal Jesus” went gold in the U.S. and was the lead single off the Violator album. That album also produced the band’s first Top 10 single “Enjoy the Silence.“
Depeche Mode continues to release Top 10 singles. Their 2001 album Exciter peaked at number 8 on the charts. Two other albums Praying The Angel and Sounds Of The Universe followed in 2005 and 2009 respectively.
The band’s latest album Spirit focuses on the devolution of civility. The title is a reference to the loss of spirit in humanity.
Depeche Mode has had 50 songs chart on the UK Singles Chart, and 17 of their albums have reached the Top 10 in the UK. They have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.
